Backup and Restore for PSI

The Backup and Restore feature in Verifone Commander Release 55.02 automatically backs up site configurations.

Overview

Backup and Restore for PSI was introduced in Verifone Commander Release 55.02.

The feature creates automatic backups for supported software upgrade and reload workflows. It is designed to reduce manual backup work during Verifone Petro Suite Installer (PSI) updates.

Backup and Restore is intended to improve store uptime and reduce technician time on site. It also reduces reliance on manual backups with the SMS Import Export Tool.

The backup is available to technicians during a PSI software upgrade. A backup occurs every time a site configuration is changed.

When the restore prompt appears

The System Configuration Restore prompt appears only when all of the following are true:

• The installed Verifone Commander version before the update is 55.01 or later.

• The target version is the same release or a later release.

• The customer profile selected during installation matches the installed customer profile.

• The customer software selected for installation matches the site profile.

If the installed version before the update is 55.00 or earlier, the restore prompt does not appear.

If the customer profile or software selection does not match, PSI continues without the restore option.

The following incompatibility message appears before continuing the installation process without the restore option.

What happens during PSI

Start the software update

Run the software update in PSI.

Progress screens appear on the technician laptop or PC during the install.

Review the restore prompt

After step 8 of 8, the System Configuration Restore prompt appears.

Choose whether to restore

Select Yes to restore the saved system configuration.

Select No to continue without the restore.

Restore outcomes

Commander was not onboarded previously

If Verifone Commander was not onboarded in the previous installation, the following message appears after the restore process is completed:

This message does not appear when only POS is updated.

Some configuration files fail to restore

If some configuration files fail to restore, the following message appears with a list of the files that failed to restore:

Review the listed files before returning the site to service.

No backup files are available

If no backup files are found, the following message appears. The installation then continues.

No backup files found

Important note

Perform manual POS pairing every time the software is reloaded. The pairing certificate from the POS is not retained across PSI installations.

If the software is reloaded only on Verifone Commander, manual pairing is not required. The POS can still use the pairing certificate preserved on the Commander during PSI.
