Configuring POP Discount

Advanced Preparation

The following determinations need to be made prior to POP Discount configuration:

Modes

Select the POP Discount Mode.

Discount Mode

Attribute

Basic

Discounts fuel when purchased or generates coupons.

A qualifier must occur in the same transaction as the fuel sale.

Basic + Codes

Combines basic features with the ability to award codes for future purchases, if the appropriate grade is not included in the transaction.

Allows a qualifying transaction and the purchase of discounted fuel to be in separate transactions.

The code generated is only valid at the site where it was earned.

Basic + Membership

Combines basic features with the ability to scan a membership card.

Membership is included in the same transaction as the fuel sale.

Choose the types of POP Discounts to set up.

Configuring with Commander Configuration Client

From the Verifone Commander Configuration Client, go to: Promos and Discounts > POP Discount.

To apply new settings or any changes made by the Commander Configuration Client, go to: Configuration Client > Tools > Refresh Configuration.

Site Params

From the POP Discount Configuration form, select the [Site Params] tab.

When the POP Discount Enabled checkbox is selected, the tabs become active to allow the configuration of POP Discounts. If the checkbox is not selected, the POP Discount feature remains disabled.

Basic POP Discount Mode

The Basic POP Discount Mode discounts the price of the fuel when it is purchased or generates coupons redeemable for merchandise discounts.

Site Params

From the POP Discount Configuration, select the [Site Params] tab.

Basic Parameters

Configure the Basic parameters.

Enables the POP Discount feature.

Free Award Security Level

Sets the security level needed to award a free POP Discount coupon <0 - 9>.

Prompt For POP Recalc

Prompt for POP Recalc is ONLY applicable for Ruby and Sapphire. It alerts the cashier that the total is adjusting as the POP Discount is applied to a Post-Pay fuel sale.

Fuel Low Limit

Sets the lowest possible value that can be used for the POP Fuel Limit setting on each POP record <$0.00 to $99.99>. Low Limit is ONLY applicable to PLU and Minimum Department Purchase discounts.

Receipt Promo Type

Sets the Receipt Promo Type. Unit Price/Gallon: Prints the discount on the receipt as savings in cents-per-gallon (by volume). Total Savings: Prints the discount on the receipt as total savings (by amount).

Configure

Configure the Fuel & DCR Site Parameters.

Allows the site to prompt for a membership card, with both inside and outside sales.

Enable Postpay Member ID

Allows the customer to scan a membership card and receive a fuel discount at the DCR and inside.

Enable Card Member ID

Allows mag-stripe cards to be accepted both inside and at the DCR.

Enable Scan Member ID

Allows bar-coded cards to be accepted inside and at the DCRs.

If both Enable Card Member ID and Enable Scan Member ID are selected, two POP Discount definitions are required: one for swiping cards, one for scanning cards.

Save or Cancel

Select [Save] to accept, or [Cancel] to exit without saving changes.

Fuel Discounts Tab

Standard Configuration

Standard configuration allows up to 10 transaction qualifiers to be defined to earn a POP discount. For each definition, up to twenty grades of fuel can be assigned a discount amount off the price per gallon (from 0-99.9 cents a gallon). The Fuel Discount table can have up to 25 definitions. Each group designates a discount amount for each fuel grade and the amount can be zero.

Fuel Discount Tab

From the POP Discount Configuration menu, select the [Fuel Discounts] tab.

Definition ID

Select the <DEF#1> value and double click on the [UNLD].

DEF#

The Definition ID, which is assigned to individual POP Discount and cannot be edited.

Grade Columns

Displays up to twenty fuel products. Only products previously assigned to a hose are available for pricing.

Discount

Enter the new [Discount] value <01 - 20> for that fuel grade, then double click on the next fuel grade.

Repeat

Repeat the steps to define up to 25 fuel discounts for up to nine grades of fuel.

Save or Cancel

Select [Save] to accept, or [Cancel] to exit without saving changes.

Apply

To apply new settings, go to: Configuration Client > Tools > Refresh Configuration.

Alternate Configuration

Alternate configuration is supported at all sites except those with Bennett dispensers. It is employed by sites encountering performance degradation issues with standard configuration. Alternate allows one POP Discount price for each grade, a discounted price using the cents difference setup in the Cash/Credit pricing parameters, and lastly, allows POP Discounts or Cash/Credit Pricing to be used at any time, but not both together.

Alternate configuration must be used for Gilbarco sites still running PAM version 31.1.

Fuel Discounts

From POP Discount Configuration, select the [Fuel Discounts] tab.

Definition ID

Select the value <Def#1> and double click on the [UNLD1].

POP Discounts Tab

The POP Discounts form is used to define the POP Discount record.

Configure the POP Number and Description.

Schedule

Configure the Schedule Type and Date parameters.

By Date

Period of time the POP Discount is active.

Start Date

Date the POP Discount will begin <mm/dd/yyyy>.

Start Time

Time the POP Discount will begin <24 hour format>.

End Date

Last day the POP Discount is active <mm/dd/yyyy>.

End Time

Last time the POP Discount is active <24 hour format>.

By Day of Week

Defines the weekday the POP Discount is active.

Schedule By Day of Week

Sets each weekday the POP Discount is active. Weekday options are Sunday to Saturday <S M W T F S>.

Award Type

Configure an [Award Type] parameter.

Award Type

Discount Only

Sets a fuel only POP discount and is available to all sites.

When selected, the [POP Discount Definition ID] activates to select a DEF# <1 - 25>.

Discount or Code

Sets the option to issue a discount or a code that can be used another day.

Only available for sites designated as Basic+Codes.

Coupon Only

Establishes a discount by coupon only. Only available for sites designated as Basic and Basic+Codes.

POP Discount Definition ID

Determines the POP Definition ID <1 - 25>.

The POP discount Definition ID box is disabled if Coupon Only is selected or if Alternate dispenser type was chosen in Site Parameters.

Discount Type

When the Discount Type is selected, the corresponding Discount Type parameters display.

Configure the Discount Type Parameters.

  • Discount Type - PLU: Based on specific PLU purchases (e.g., buy a Deluxe Car Wash and get a five cents-per-gallon discount on a Premium fuel purchase), but PLUs with a fee/ charge and used in a promotion can be utilized.

PLU

Product that must be purchased to qualify for the discount.

Modifier

If the PLU is valid a yellow index card icon appears.

Quantity

Quantity of the PLU needed for the discount <0 - 999>.

POP Fuel Limit

Volume limit for the fuel that is subject to a POP Discount <0 - 999>. POP Fuel Limit may NOT be lower than the limit set in Fuel Low Limit.

Membership Card Required

Indicates if a card is required for the PLU Discount Type.

  • Discount Type - MOP: Based on a specific payment method (e.g., pay with cash and receive a discount on select fuel products).

Payment that must be used to qualify for a discount.

Membership Card Required

Indicates if a card is required for the MOP Discount Type.

  • Discount Type - Card Type: Based on a specific credit card type used in the transaction (e.g., use XYZ credit card and get a two cents-per-gallon discount on any fuel purchase). If the card type matches the range, the payment qualifies for a discount.

Show Low Fee Cards

Allows the display of low fee cards.

None

POP by BIN is not required.

Bin is a pre-defined block or pattern set of numbers which identify a card (e.g., Discover is 6011, Mastercard 5178, etc).

Mask

POP by BIN reward is according to the Mask offered. Enter up to <6 digits>, beginning with the first digit. Masking is when the range attempts to find the card match.

Range

POP by BIN reward is according to the Range offered. Enter up to <6 digits> for the Start BIN range and End BIN range. Enter the lowest and highest digits to include all of the customers to be rewarded. The range is a pattern which helps identify a group of cards within a defined block of cards (i.e., Visa cards, Discover, Dinner’s Club, etc).

Membership Card Required

Indicates if a card is required for the Card Type Discount Type.

  • Discount Type - Minimum Purchase: Based on spending a specific amount during a certain period (e.g., spend $20.00 in May and get three cents-per-gallon off on premium fuel or two cents-per-gallon off all other fuel grades).

Membership Card Required

Indicates if a card is required for the MOP Discount Type.

  • Discount Type - Minimum Dept Purchase: Based on spending a minimum amount in a specific department (e.g., spend $10.00 in the grocery department and get two cents-per-gallon off on premium fuel or one cent-per-gallon off all other fuel grades). Discount applies to the net price.

Department

Department from which the purchase is required.

POP Fuel Limit

Volume limit of the fuel that is subject to a discount <0 - 999>. POP Fuel Limit may NOT be lower than the limit set in Fuel Low Limit.

Discount Type

Applies the minimum <Amount or Quantity/Volume>.

  • Discount Type - Membership: Based on using a scannable/ swipeable POP Discount membership card (e.g., use a membership card and get five cents-per-gallon off on any fuel purchase).

Bar Code

Indicates the membership card has a Bar Code that can be scanned.

Manual Entry Permitted

Allows the cashier to enter a barcode or mag-stripe code manually. This parameter doesn’t apply to DCR initiated transactions.

The membership Discount Type option is only available if POP Discount Mode [Basic + Membership] is selected in the Site Parameters tab.

Member Mask

Data received from the scan or swipe of the membership card <3 or 4-digit (UPC)> using asterisks to indicate accepted characters.

Mag Stripe

Indicates that the membership card has a Magnetic Stripe that can be swiped.

Track Preference

Determines whether the membership data is on <Track 1 or Track 2> of the magnetic stripe. Value to offset the number of digits skipped before mag-stripe card track digits are read <1 - 99>. Consult the specific card’s documentation for more information.

To apply new settings, go to: Configuration Client > Tools > Refresh Configuration.

Discount Coupon Tab

POP Discount Coupon Line Items are optional. They are used to record a miscellaneous note or related promotion on a receipt.

From POP Discount Configuration, select the [Discount Coupon] tab.

Configure the POP Discount Coupon parameters.

Log out and back into all C18 terminals after any setting modifications to allow these changes to take effect.

Auto Generate POP Discount Codes

Utilizing this feature will create a set of valid POP Codes for an external program to reference.

The generated POP Discount Codes will be added to the transSet document, also known as the Daily Transaction Log, to be parsed out as needed.

The POP Options tab provides a detailed layout of fuel products with the list of POP Discount definitions and perspective discount amounts across each grade.

POP Options

From POP Discount Configuration, select the [POP Options] tab.

Fuel Discount Definitions

Select a Fuel Discount definition from the drop down menu.

Codes

Enter the number of desired codes to generate.

Generate

Click the Generate POP Codes button.

The maximum number of codes that may be generated per Fuel Discount Definition is 300.
