Please Pay Inside E01 (Poll Error)

Fix Poll Errors and "Please Pay Inside" on DCR (E01, See Cashier, "Currently only indoor payment is allowed")

Use this guide when DCRs show “Poll Errors” and are not responding.

Error: "Currently only indoor payment is allowed" / "Please Pay Inside"

If you see this message at the pump, start here.

It’s a DCR communication symptom. It’s in the same bucket as:

  • “Please Pay Inside”

  • “Please Pay Inside E01”

  • “See Cashier”

  • “Pay Inside loading”

  • Blank DCR screen

  • “Currently only indoor payment is allowed”

Search terms: Please Pay Inside, Pay Inside, Pay Inside E01, See Cashier, Currently only indoor payment is allowed, Poll Error, Poll errors, DCR offline, DCR not located.

“Please Pay Inside” on the pump/DCR is not the same thing as POS “PayIn/Payout”.

This prompt usually means the dispenser card reader (DCR) is not communicating with the Site Controller (Commander).

Common symptoms at DCRs

  • Poll Error

  • Please Pay Inside E01

  • See Cashier

  • Please Pay Inside

  • Pay Inside loading

  • Blank screen

  • Currently only indoor payment is allowed

These usually mean the DCRs and the Site Controller (Commander) are not communicating.

Wayne DCRs stuck on "Loading started"

  1. Confirm the site is using Wayne DCRs.

  2. Confirm whether your Wayne DCRs have a contactless reader.

  3. If they do not have contactless, please contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

If they do have contactless, continue with standard DCR troubleshooting below.

Standard DCR troubleshooting

Start here if impacting only one or a few DCRs

1

Identify affected pumps

  • Confirm how many DCRs are impacted.

  • If only 1–2 are impacted, troubleshoot those positions first.

2

Verify the message on the affected DCR screens

Examples: Please Pay Inside, Currently only indoor payment is allowed, E01, See Cashier, or Blank screen.

3

Verify debit encryption (when applicable)

In Configuration Client:

ToolsManaged ModulesCurrent ConfigurationsitecontrollerDCR DriverAdvanced SettingsDebit Encrypt Type

If the site does not process debit and is on Base 53.40+, this may be allowed to remain NONE.

Set to DUKPT if the site processes debit.

4

Before Initializing the DCRs

Before Initializing the impacted DCRs which is Downloading to one or few DCRs, confirm:

  • The impacted pumps/fueling positions are Idle and

  • No Active transactions or customers on those impacted pumps.

This prevents Initialization errors and stuck fuel sales.

Before Downloading to All DCRs or Initializing All DCRs, confirm:

  • All pumps/fueling positions are Idle and

  • No Active transactions or customers at the pumps.

This prevents Initialization errors and stuck fuel sales.

5

Initialize the impacted DCRs

From the register:

CSR FunctionsFuel Manager MenuDownload to DCRs

  • Enter the affected DCR number.

  • Enter 0 to download to All DCRs.

6

Confirm whether DCRs respond

Have the site watch at least one affected DCR during the download.

  • Any screen change (Downloading/Loading, reboot, new prompt) usually means the DCR is receiving data from the Site Controller (Commander).

  • No change at all (same message, no flicker) usually means it’s not communicating with the Commander.

Forecourt status (OEMV / Ethernet)

Forecourt Status

Start here if impacting all DCRs

1

Wayne-only check (if applicable)

If your site has Wayne DCRs showing E01 on all DCRs, first confirm Debit Encrypt Type is set to DUKPT.

The screenshots below show the options to check the Debit Encrypt type:

2

Confirm connection type (OEMV/Ethernet or Serial/FCI)

In Configuration Client:

ToolsManaged ModulessitecontrollerDCR DriverDCR Channel 01Advanced Settings

  • IP Enabled checked = Ethernet (OEMV)

  • Enabled checked + Port Name present + IP Enabled unchecked = Serial (FCI)

3

Before Downloading to All DCRs or Initializing All DCRs, confirm:

  • All pumps/fueling positions are Idle and

  • No Active transactions or customers at the pumps.

This prevents Initialization errors and stuck fuel sales.

4

Initialize all DCRs

Use either method:

  • On the register: CSR FunctionsFuel Manager MenuDownload to DCRs → enter 0

  • Configuration Client: ForecourtInitializationDCRAll

5

Watch DCR screens during the Initialization

  • Any screen change usually means the Site Controller (Commander) is communicating with the DCRs.

  • No change at all usually means a communication issue.

If there’s no change, go to the DCRs over Ethernet (OEMV) or Serial guide.
