# Ruby 2 and RubyCI

#### Use this when the Ruby 2 screen is black or the RubyCI looks off.

The Ruby 2 register and the RubyCI have separate power.

*Check both units. One can have power while the other does not.*

### How to check power on Ruby 2

#### Look for signs of power

Check for a heartbeat(HB), power light, or status display.

If you see any of these, the Ruby 2 has power.

#### Check the DC power connection

Go to the back of the Ruby 2.

Find **DC Power**.

Make sure the cord is firmly seated.

Do not unplug it from the back.

Do not remove the Ruby 2 power cord from the back of the unit. The connector has small pins that can bend.

#### Check the power brick and outlet

Trace the power cord to the power brick.

Make sure it is seated tightly.

Then trace the brick to the wall outlet or UPS.

Make sure that end is seated too.

### How to check power on RubyCi

The RubyCi sits under the Ruby 2.

It is the site controller for that register.

Check power on the RubyCi separately.

Trace the power cord to the power brick.

Make sure it is seated tightly.

Then trace the brick to the wall outlet or UPS.

Make sure that end is seated too.

If the Ruby 2 has no power, the screen will be black and the touchscreen will not work.

The Ruby 2 does not lose power just because the RubyCI has no power.
