How to fix the cash drawer

1

Test with the key

Use the cash drawer key to manually open and close the drawer.

This confirms whether it’s a physical or electronic issue.

2

Check the Cash drawer Port connection

The cash drawer must be connected to Port 1 on the POS.

Check that the cable is firmly plugged into Port 1 and the drawer settings are correct.

3

Clear the drawer tracks

Open the drawer with the key.

Look inside the tracks for coins, paper clips, or other debris.

Remove anything blocking the tracks.

Slide the cash drawer back in and Test.

FAQ

The drawer opens with the key but not from the POS — why?

This means the drawer mechanism works fine. The issue is the electronic connection — check the Port 1 cable and POS settings.

What kind of debris blocks the drawer?

Coins, paper clips, receipt paper, and food wrappers are the most common. Check the tracks on both sides of the drawer.

Can I run a test without making a real sale?

Yes. Most POS systems have a drawer-open function in the CSR or manager menu. Use that to test without a transaction.
