# Cash Drawer Won’t Open

#### Use this when the cash drawer won’t open from the POS.

The cash drawer doesn’t pop open after a cash transaction, or it’s physically stuck.

*This is usually a wrong port connection, debris in the drawer tracks, or a physical jam.*

### Symptoms

You may see one or more of the following:

* The cash drawer doesn’t open after a cash sale.
* The drawer is physically stuck and won’t slide out.
* The drawer opens with the key but not from the POS.

Most likely cause: The drawer is not connected to Cash drawer Port, or debris is blocking the tracks.

### Before you start

* Have the cash drawer key ready.
* Check that you can access the back of the POS to inspect the Cash drawer Port connection.

### How to fix the cash drawer

#### Test with the key

Use the cash drawer key to manually open and close the drawer.&#x20;

This confirms whether it’s a physical or electronic issue.

#### Check the Cash drawer Port connection

The cash drawer must be connected to Port 1 on the POS.&#x20;

Check that the cable is firmly plugged into Port 1 and the drawer settings are correct.

#### Clear the drawer tracks

Open the drawer with the key.&#x20;

Look inside the tracks for coins, paper clips, or other debris.&#x20;

Remove anything blocking the tracks.

Slide the cash drawer back in and Test.
