### Symptoms

You may see one or more of the following:

* The printer has **no lights** at all.
* The **power LED is completely off**.
* The printer **doesn’t respond** (Feed button does nothing).
* It worked earlier, but is now **completely off** and started after equipment was **moved**, **cleaned**, or a **cable was changed**.

**Most often this means:** No power to the printer. Usually a **switch off** or a **loose round power cable**.

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Not your issue?

* Power light is on, but there’s a **red error light** → use [Receipt Printer Red Error Light Is On](/printer-help/receipt-printer-troubleshooting/receipt-printer-red-error-light-is-on.md)
* POS says **“Receipt Printer Unavailable”** → use ["Receipt Printer Unavailable" Error Fix](/printer-help/receipt-printer-troubleshooting/receipt-printer-unavailable-error-fix.md)
* Receipt prints **random symbols/gibberish** → use [Receipt Printer Printing Gibberish or Random Characters](/printer-help/receipt-printer-troubleshooting/receipt-prints-gibberish-random-characters.md)
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}

#### Stop rule

After every step, check the **power LED**.

If the LED turns **on**, stop and **test a receipt**.

If you unplugged the register/POS, plug it back in before testing.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Before you start (30 seconds)

* Confirm the **register/POS powers on**.
  * If the POS is dead too, fix that first.
* Identify the **round black printer power cable**.
  * Do **not** unplug the flat data/serial cable.
